Cold-chain operators

Cold storage and refrigerated transport operators who protect the value of perishable products from slaughterhouse or port to point of sale.

Definition in the architecture : Cold storage and transport, refrigerated warehouses

Your activities

What you do

  • Run refrigerated warehouses and chilled and frozen cold rooms
  • Provide refrigerated transport for meat, fish, dairy and horticultural products
  • Guarantee unbroken temperature control and its traceability along the route
  • Offer freezing, packing and order-preparation services
  • Maintain refrigeration plants and manage back-up power
Your role in the value chain

You receive perishable goods from slaughterhouses, fisheries, dairies, horticultural growers and importers, then store and deliver them to processors, retailers, caterers and exporters. You are the precondition for livestock, fish and fresh fruit and vegetable value chains to exist beyond the local market. You secure food safety, extend product shelf life and unlock access to distant urban markets and demanding export markets.

Where are you found?

Mainly in Douala and Yaoundé, where modern retail, slaughterhouses and the entry ports for frozen products are concentrated. They are also found in Kribi and Limbé for fish products, in the North and Adamaoua for the meat chain, and in the western highlands for horticulture and poultry.

Your place in the ecosystem

Why your business matters in Cameroon and Central Africa

Cameroon’s hot and humid climate makes refrigeration essential from the moment of harvest, slaughter or landing. Without an unbroken cold chain, a significant share of livestock and fish production deteriorates before reaching the consumer. Cold-chain operators enable the regular supply of major cities, the structuring of the meat, dairy, fish and horticulture value chains, and compliance with the HACCP standards required by retailers and export markets. They reduce dependence on imported frozen products and open the way to exports of fruit and seafood to the sub-region and beyond.
