Sea-going fishing crews & vessel owners
As a vessel owner or sea-going fisher, you catch, land and preserve at the dock the fish from Cameroon’s coast bound for markets and processing.
Definition in the architecture : Offshore catch, landing and dockside preservation
What you do
- Equip and operate motorised canoes or coastal and offshore fishing vessels
- Catch fish, shrimp and other seafood according to seasons and authorised zones
- Land catches at landing sites and fishing ports along the coast
- Keep catches on ice or in dockside cold rooms before sale
- Maintain boats, engines and fishing gear throughout the season
- Sell to fish traders, smokers and wholesalers along the coast
You stand at the origin of the marine fisheries value chain. You receive fuel, ice, gear and spare parts from suppliers, together with licences and monitoring from the competent services. You deliver your catches to fish traders, smokers and artisanal processors, wholesalers and industrial units along the coast. You secure the supply of fresh sea fish to coastal and inland cities, and you unlock for downstream actors a raw material whose freshness at the dock determines its value, its processing and its access to demanding markets.
Where are you found?Along the Atlantic coast: Douala and its estuary, Kribi and the southern coast, Limbe and the South-West coast, together with the creeks and fishing villages of the Littoral. The ports and landing sites of Douala, Kribi and Limbe concentrate landing, dockside preservation and first sale.
Why your business matters in Cameroon and Central Africa
Marine fishing supplies a significant share of the fish consumed in Cameroon and supports many coastal families. It provides the raw material for artisanal smoking and drying, products in high demand on national and sub-regional markets. Its sustainability depends on respecting zones and seasons, fighting illegal fishing and improving preservation on board and at the dock. A better-equipped fleet and organised landing sites reduce losses, improve sanitary quality and open the way to regional outlets within CEMAC and towards neighbouring Nigeria, a major consumer of seafood.
The headings that project promoters, partners and institutions look at first. Fill them in with your real orders of magnitude: this is what makes your profile usable.
- Improve preservation on board and at the dock to protect the value of every catch
- Access fuel, ice and spare parts on stable terms throughout the fishing season
- Secure regular outlets with fish traders, processors and wholesalers along the coast
- Comply with sustainable fishing rules to protect the resource and market access
- Finance the renewal of boats, engines and fishing gear with suitable credit
