Buying houses & trading desks
As a buying house for cocoa, coffee or other cash crops, you collect, pre-finance and market the output of planters and cooperatives.
Definition in the architecture : Buying houses for cash-crop value chains (cocoa, coffee…)
What you do
- Buy cocoa, coffee and other cash crops from planters and cooperatives
- Check quality, weigh, sort and pack lots before storage
- Pre-finance the season and advance funds to collectors and producer groups
- Store, consolidate and move lots to exporters and processing plants
- Document the origin of lots to meet traceability requirements
You are the aggregation link between planters and export. You receive beans, cherries and other cash crops from family farms, collectors and cooperatives. You deliver uniform, controlled and documented lots to exporters, traders and processing units. Your warehouses are where quality is first checked and where lots become tradable. You secure payment for the planter, often through pre-financing, and you unlock for downstream actors consolidated volumes and the traceability that conditions access to export markets.
Where are you found? In the cocoa and coffee basins: Centre, South, Littoral and South-West for cocoa; the Western Highlands and North-West for arabica and robusta coffee; the forest zone of the East for cocoa. Head offices and export warehouses are concentrated in Douala and Yaoundé, close to the ports and administrations.
Why your business matters in Cameroon and Central Africa
Buying houses have long structured Cameroon’s cash-crop value chains. They provide liquidity during the season in rural areas, where prompt payment to planters conditions plantation upkeep and supply loyalty. They guarantee the merchantable quality of lots before shipment and carry a growing share of traceability obligations, notably under the EUDR for cocoa and coffee. Their ability to finance, store and consolidate makes them a natural partner for exporters and manufacturers, in Cameroon and across CEMAC markets. Their professionalisation supports local value addition and the reputation of Cameroonian origins.
The headings that project promoters, partners and institutions look at first. Fill them in with your real orders of magnitude: this is what makes your profile usable.
- Secure regular volumes through contractual relationships with cooperatives and producer groups
- Set up the plot-level traceability required by the EUDR and by international buyers
- Access structured finance to cover seasonal working-capital needs on competitive terms
- Reduce quality losses through better drying, storage and handling practices
- Develop direct outlets to local and regional processors alongside export
