Domestic traders
Traders who buy and resell agro-pastoral products on the domestic market and into neighbouring CEMAC countries and Nigeria.
Definition in the architecture : Domestic and sub-regional trade (CEMAC, Nigeria)
What you do
- Buy farm, livestock and processed products from producers and collectors
- Resell on domestic and sub-regional markets: Chad, Central African Republic, Gabon, Nigeria
- Arbitrage price differences between production basins and consumption areas
- Organise transport, storage and crossing at land borders
- Pre-finance seasonal purchases and manage commercial risk
You receive goods from collectors, cooperatives, warehouses and processors, and deliver them to wholesalers, manufacturers and importers in neighbouring countries. You move production to where it is scarce and absorb surpluses from production basins. You carry price, transport and currency risk. You secure outlets for surplus value chains, unlock sub-regional markets for Cameroonian products and feed valuable market information back upstream.
Where are you found? At the borders and along the corridors: Garoua and Maroua towards Chad and Nigeria, Ngaoundéré and Bertoua towards the Central African Republic, Ebolowa and Kribi towards Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, Bamenda and Buea towards Nigeria. Douala and Yaoundé concentrate traders in processed and imported goods.
Why your business matters in Cameroon and Central Africa
Cameroon is a leading agricultural supplier to several neighbouring countries in Central Africa, and Nigeria is a large market on its doorstep. Traders are the craftsmen of this sub-regional trade, often informal, which now needs structuring. They add value to food crops, livestock, oilseeds and processed goods beyond the borders and support rural incomes. The AfCFTA and the CEMAC common market open new prospects for them, provided practices become more professional, trade is formalised and they comply with rules of origin and the sanitary standards of destination countries.
The headings that project promoters, partners and institutions look at first. Fill them in with your real orders of magnitude: this is what makes your profile usable.
- Formalise cross-border trade to benefit from CEMAC and AfCFTA regimes
- Access seasonal financing and price-risk hedging instruments for the campaign
- Secure supply through contracts with cooperatives, collectors and warehouses
- Comply with the sanitary and phytosanitary requirements of destination countries
